With nine returning wrestlers, six of them letterwinners, the Edgewood-Colesburg team is looking to continue the strides the Vikings made last season when they finished at an even .500 (14-14).

Seniors Max Bahls, Alex Jones and Jordan Wegman will lead the way, after finishing third in the conference tournament (Bahls and Jones) and qualifying for the district tournament (Wegman).

Coach Alex Hanna added, “We will be open at some weights but should be solid at the weights we fill. Having the role players from last year step up will be big for us. We also need to improve every time we step on the mat and learn from our mistakes that the younger guys will make.

“We have strong returning seniors with great leadership and work ethics. They will lead from the front. We also have a great group of new freshmen as well who will compete for starting jobs from day one.”

Among those newbies are Dawson Bergan, Payton Gaul and Chase Kirby.

Hanna names Lisbon, East Buchanan and Midland to claim the top three spots in the Tri-Rivers. He gives his own Vikings, Alburnett and Starmont equal weight to gain the next spot. “Top four is always our goal in the conference, he added. “It is a tough conference and we will have to wrestle well to compete for that finish this year.”
