Al Hermsen’s career as a softball official has taken him to a lot of places. And now, it’s taken him to the Hall of Fame. The 23-year umpiring veteran was inducted into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Umpire Hall of Fame, July 23, in Waukee.
Hermsen’s career began after ending his softball playing days in modified fast-pitch leagues in the area. Licensed in 1999, he waited a year to begin officiating to watch his daughter, Alison, play softball her senior year in high school.
