Logan Woellert tossed a complete-game three-hitter and Conner Funk accounted for both runs as West Delaware ended their regular season with a 2-1 win over Western Dubuque at Farley July 12.

Funk singled in the first inning and Isaac Fettkether followed by getting hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt by Logan Woellert moved the runners over before a ground out by Luke Kehrli scored Funk with the game’s first run.

In the top of the fifth, Tyrus Werner walked and was moved to second on a bunt by Lukas Meyer, setting the stage for an RBI single from Funk.

The Bobcats scored a run in the bottom of the sixth and threatened to score more with two on and one out. But Woellert got number four hitter Jayden Siegert to ground out before striking out Bryn Vantiger to end the inning. It was one of four strikeouts on the night for Woellert.

West Delaware had five hits, with Funk going 2-for-3, Jared Voss 1-for-3 and Fettkether and Will Ward 1-for-2.

Coach Nate Lahr said, “This was a really well played high school baseball game by both teams. The ball was hit hard by both teams. To come out on top against a very good team that plays in a 4A conference is a great non-conference win for us. Coming out on top shows the type of ball we are capable of playing.”

He complimented Woellert, saying, “He did a great job on the mound. It was awesome to see him come out there and pitch the way that he did. He did a great job of using all his pitches and keeping Western Dubuque hitters off balance.”
