Jase Turnis keeps pace at Starmont.

With Zach Wenger leading the way, the West Delaware cross country team finished sixth in the 2A/3A division of the Starmont Invitational, Sept. 14.

Wenger ran 18:39, finishing 20th. Next came Evan Kartman, running 19:07 and finishing 26th. He was followed by Braden Wenger 33rd (19:37), Nick Mensen 36th (19:45), Ethan Hoefer 37th (19:46), Nolan Mensen 41st (20:03) and Jase Turnis 48th (20:19).

Waukon won the team title with 52 points, ahead of Oelwein 59 and Center Point-Urbana 73. Next came Denver (86), Starmont (120), West Delaware (152), Vinton Shellsburg (205), Independence (249), Beckman Catholic (273), Columbus Catholic (283), Aplington-Parkersburg (287) and Union (312).

JV runners and their times were: Alex Steffen 20:09, Landyn Powers 20:19, Ashton Chesmore 20:50, Gabe Quint 20:57, Dominic Mastin 21:12, Grant Menard 21:14, Ethan Grawe 21:19, Ashton Fangman 21:44, Owen Neuhaus 22:20, Zach O’Rear 22:37, Adam Cook 22:45, Gil Johnson 22:46, Quinn Ronnenberg 23:04, Wes Duggan 23:33, Landen Palmer 23:33 and Wyatt Willey 26:23.

Coach Dale Meyer said, “My boys continue to make nice progress with 22 of 23 runners running their fastest times of the season. Several were career PRs. I’m very proud of their effort.”
