Josie McMahon leads the way for the Hawks at the Starmont Invitational.

The West Delaware girls used season personal records and season-best times to take second place in the 2A/3A division at the Starmont Invitational, Sept. 14.

Josie McMahon led the Hawks with her time of 22:54, good for 28th. Faith Rich was next, finishing 33rd in 23:17, ahead of Noelle Bardgett, 34th in 23:19. Next came Makayla Gasper 38th (23:30), Emily Prier 39th (23:34), Grace Millenkamp 41st (23:37) and Abby Kass 43rd (24:02).

Center Point-Urbana took the team title with 43 points, one ahead of the Hawks (44). Next came Denver (49), Aplington-Parkersburg (111), Union (136), Beckman (168), Waukon (193) and Starmont (220).

JV runners for West Delaware were: Brooke Lewin 24:12, Izzy Schmitz 24:25, Emma Hogan 24:59, Claire Ridenour 25:29, Stephanie LaRosa 25:43, Ava Neuhaus 25:47, Willow Thompson 25:48, Maddie Hoeger 25:58, Maggie Millenkamp 26:06, Abigail O’Rear 26:52, Alexis McTaggart 27:05, Maylin Coates 27:19, Ava Bockenstedt 27:59, Sylvie Mersch 29:09, Jenna Funke 30:27, Anastasia White 32:28, Gwen Pasker 33:16, Maddie Hildebrand 33:29 and Audrey Jolley 34:27.

Coach Ben Moser was proud of his team. “The girls had a phenomenal race with 12 PRs and five with season-best times. It was just a great night to run and the girls took full advantage of that. I can’t be prouder of the approach they had. Each week the girls set a goal for themselves and top to bottom met or surpassed their goals.”
