The Manchester Press encourages readers to submit letters to the editor. Here are some guidelines:
• Letters are published at the discretion of the Manchester Press.
• All letters must be accompanied by the author’s telephone number(s). Phone numbers are not published.
• When authors write in an official capacity — representing governmental bodies, organizations or businesses, for example — the institution is listed in the address line.
• The maximum word count is 350.
• All letters, including those within the word-count limit, are subject to abridgment and editing.
• Letters may bear up to two signatures.
• An author will not have two letters published within a 30-day period — 60 days if the subject of the letters is similar — and no more than six letters per calendar year.
• In general, these letters are not accepted: “Thank-you” messages (unless from a non-profit), letters that are not exclusive to the Manchester Press, letters copied from websites or other sources, letters of a commercial nature, most poetry, personal attacks, “open” letters directed to other parties, extensive biblical citations and petitions.
• Submission of a letter indicates the author’s permission for publication in the Manchester Press and on ManchesterPress.com, and for posting to fee-based archival services.
• The week before an election, no new letters to the editor will be published for the election. The only letters relating to the election that will be run that final week must be a response to a previously printed letter to the editor.
• All letters must be submitted by 10 a.m. on the Friday before the publication date for consideration.
• The Manchester Press does not acknowledge letters not selected for publication.
