Roger D. Goldsmith, 89, passed from this world Sept. 2, 2020.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Roger was born July 14,1931 to John and Alta Goldsmith in Clayton County.

Roger grew up on a farm in Greeley with his brother Brice. Roger graduated from Greeley High School and shortly after joined the US Army. During his stay in Germany he met and married Helga Bommert. Together they moved to Strawberry Point and eventually to Oelwein where their four children were raised. They later divorced.

Roger was an engaging salesman and spent much of his career in the cabinet sales and design business. During this time, he made many friends across the state of Iowa. In 2011, Roger moved to Melcher to be closer to family.

Left to cherish his memory are his son Michael (Debbie) Goldsmith of Waterloo, daughter Patricia (Eric) Fawks of Lenexa, Kan., son Rick (Saborah) of Olathe, Kan., daughter Kim Goldsmith of Melcher, grandchildren Lindsey, Cory, Hailey, Garrett, Emma, and Nick, four great-grandchildren, brother Brice (Norma) of Oelwein, Goddaughter Amy Woodson along with nieces and nephews.
