Leon Everett Beitz, 84, of Hopkinton, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, at his home.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at Hopkinton Community Church, with visitation held two hours prior. Burial followed at Hopkinton Cemetery. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family.
Leon was born March 21, 1938, in Monticello, the son of Everette and Elma (Porter) Beitz. He graduated from Buck Creek in 1956 and entered the United States Army where he served our country proudly. On July 1, 1961, Leon was united in marriage to Sharon K. Davis in Buck Creek. During his working career he worked for Clinton Engineers, Johnsons Feed Mill in Hopkinton, did AI services for many years and sold fertilizer and feed. He planted an acre of potatoes at one time. He was a member of the Dairy and AMPI Board, past president of Buck Creek Methodist Church Trustees and Buck Creek Cemetery. He also formed the gospel jubilee at Buck Creek. He loved spending time with his family and friends and always had a joke to share. Leon was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan, enjoyed softball and bowling, where he always enjoyed team trips to Wrigley Field for the four-day Cubs series. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Leon is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Sharon Beitz; children, Roger Beitz (Deb Frimml) of Monticello, Pamela Beitz of Monticello, Kimberly (Brad) Snyder of Buck Creek and Chad (Tracy) Beitz of Hopkinton; grandchildren, Brooke, Kelsey, Katie, Emma, Joellen, Cole and Jacksen; siblings, Maynard (Calista) Beitz of Fort Collins, Colo., Charlotte Emerson of Manchester, Donna (Chuck) Hettinger of Greeley, Colo., Diane Beitz of Manchester and Gerald (Sue) Beitz of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everette and Elma; infant children, Annette and Rodney; brother, Norman Beitz; and infant brother, Kenneth Beitz.
Memorials in Leon’s memory may be directed to the family.
