John Henry Tegeler, 93, of Manchester, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating.

Visitation was held from 3-7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester.

Interment with Military Rites: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.

John was born July 17, 1928, in Edgewood, the son of John G. and Margaret (Mayer) Tegeler. John attended school at St. Mary School and graduated from Xavier High School in Dyersville. He then attended Loras College in Dubuque for three years.

On Sept. 30, 1950, John was united in marriage to Kathleen “Kay” McMahon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville. John was then drafted into the United States Air Force and served as a Staff Sergeant. He and Kay lived in Louisiana during his service. The family returned to Iowa after his service and the couple began farming north of Manchester.

John farmed for 28 years and then was a rural mail carrier for 17 years. He then worked as a realtor with F&M Realty until his retirement. The couple moved to Manchester in 1980.

John was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He served as a member of the St. Mary School Board and also was a West Delaware School Board member for 10 years. John enjoyed golfing and playing cards. He was an avid fan of the West Delaware Hawks and Iowa Hawkeyes. John loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 71 years, Kay Tegeler of Manchester; five children, Tim Tegeler of Manchester, Nick (Karie) Tegeler of Greendale, Wis., Kathy (Mike) Greve of Manchester, George (Pam) Tegeler of Elkader, and Mary Margaret (Donn) Stoner of Hickman, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren with one on the way; his sister, Therese Reicher of Dyersville; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeff Tegeler in 2010; a granddaughter, Muriah Tegeler; a daughter-in-law, Barb Tegeler; two brothers, George Tegeler and William Tegeler; and one sister, Elizabeth Hoffman.
