Moyle to boxing hall of fame

Doug Moyle, left, stands with his boxing coach, Oscar Hicks, after Moyle was inducted into the Iowa Boxing Hall of Fame Aug. 10 in Marshalltown. Moyle, who now lives in Washington, is from the Dundee/Manchester area and was coached by Hicks in his Manchester ring. Moyle won Golden Gloves and AAU boxing titles six consecutive years. Moyle went to national boxing in 1967 in Milwaukee, 1968 in Salt Lake City, 1969 in Kansas City, 1970 in Las Vegas, 1971 in Fort Worth and 1972 in Minneapolis. In the 1971 National Golden Gloves tournament, Moyle won three fights, defeating the Milwaukee champion in the first bout, the Los Angeles champion in the second and the Denver champion in the third. In the photo above, Moyle holds his Hall of Fame plaque next to Hicks, who holds his own Hall of Fame plaque from induction two years ago.
