Loras and Jolene Bagge, of Delaware County, will be inducted into the 2020 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame during a virtual ceremony Sunday, Aug. 23. Eighty-six Iowa counties are participating this year and have selected 117 inductees for their outstanding service and dedication to 4-H.
Two ceremonies will be streamed online to recognize this year’s honorees. Loras and Jolene will be recognized during the 1:30 p.m. event. Visit www.iowa4hfoundation.org the day of the ceremony to locate the online event.
Loras and Jolene were so impressed with how 4-H made a difference in the lives of their children that they continue to support and volunteer for the Delaware County 4-H organization. Loras was a former Delaware County 4-H member and continues to be involved in Delaware County 4-H by helping at the fairgrounds before the fair starts, volunteering at the Delaware County 4-H Food Stand, and he is currently serving on the 4-H Youth Committee in the role of chairperson.
Jolene was a volunteer 4-H Leader for the North Fork Kit Kats and North Fork Wildcats 4-H clubs for several years and continues to volunteer during fair week on conference judging day and volunteering in the Delaware County 4-H Food Stand. Both Loras and Jolene enjoyed seeing their children and other Delaware County 4-H youth grow into independent adults, volunteers, and leaders because of their experience in 4-H.
Counties select inductees for their exceptional work in contributing to the lives of 4-H members and the overall 4-H program. Many inductees served as club leaders, youth mentors, fair superintendents or fair board members, Iowa State University Extension county council members, county youth council members, fair judges, financial supporters, chaperones or ISU Extension staff members. The inductees have demonstrated dedication, encouragement, commitment and guidance to Iowa’s 4-H’ers through the years.
The Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame was initiated in 2002 to help commemorate the 100th anniversary of 4-H. Information about previous inductees to the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame also is available on the Iowa 4-H Foundation website, organized by year and by county.
