Maquoketa Valley’s wrestling team continues to struggle as the Wildcats dropped all three of their dual matches in a quadrangular meet hosted by Anamosa Dec. 20.
The Wildcats lost to Anamosa, 60-24, Center Point-Urbana, 62-18, and Monticello, 66-18.
“Overall, I was satisfied with the way some of our guys performed. We have work we need to get done as far as getting guys healthy and back on track,” said Tim Andrews, head coach of the Wildcats. “The break has come at a good time for us and I am looking forward to the second half of the season.”
Parker Sternhagen got the meet off to a good start for the Wildcats as he pinned Cameron Breashears in just 26 seconds to win the match at 132 pounds. Tim Harmon followed with a pin of Dominic Haas at 1:45 of their match at 152. After that match, there was a run of wins by Anamosa including Carter Kruse losing his battle at 182. Michael Feldmann changed the flow of the match when he pinned Alex Shover at 1:17 of their match at 220. Michael Schaul also pinned his opponent at 126 in 1:58 to close out the scoring for the Wildcats. Anthony March was the only other Maquoketa Valley wrestler to hit the mat against Anamosa, but he lost his battle at 106.
The Wildcats had their hands full with Monticello as only Kruse (182), Devin Smith (195) and Schaul (126) were able to earn points in that match. Harmon, Feldmann, March and Sternhagen were all beaten in their matches.
It continued to be a tough night for the Wildcats when they faced off against Center Point-Urbana. Only Kruse (182), Feldman (220) and Schaul (126) were able to win points. Harmon, Smith, March and Sternhagen lost their battles.
