Edward “Ed” L. Feld, Jr., 74, of Carbondale, Colo., passed away Oct. 16, of complications from heart congestion.

Ed was born in Iowa to Dr. and Mrs. Edward L. Feld, he grew up in Manchester. Following graduation from West Delaware County High School, he worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor in Redstone, Colo.; sailed in the U.S. Marine- Pacific, Caribbean and Alaska waters. Following service with the U.S. Army Security Agency in South Vietnam and then West Germany, Ed attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colo.

Ed met in future wife, Barbara, while in Germany where she was enrolled in a college year abroad program. They were married July 16, 1970, in Ouray, Colo., initially lived in Gunnison, then Sitka, Alaska, and settled in Glenwood Springs where they lived until her death Dec. 16, 1985. Ed and Barb loved traveling, especially their Pan American Around-the-World tour, visiting the Far East, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

Ed held several positions in Glenwood Springs and Garfield County, but he most enjoyed his position in Lift Operations with the Aspen Ski Company, where he worked for 20 years. He treasured his friendships with his co-workers, neighbors and lifelong friends.

Ed is survived by his sister, Pam Feld, of Hailey, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his much-loved wife, Barbara. He will be buried next to her in Sioux Falls, S. D.
