A Dyersville man who authorities said sexually abused a teen boy was sentenced this week to five years in prison.
Jacob G. Ahlers, 19, was sentenced in Iowa District Court for Delaware County after pleading guilty to a charge of assault with intent to commit sex abuse, as well as aiding and abetting third-degree burglary in an unrelated case.
According to court documents, Ahlers entered a boy’s bedroom in an Edgewood residence in December 2017 and sexually assaulted him. The Dyersville Commercial does not identify victims of sexual crimes.
Ahlers originally was charged with third-degree sex abuse but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.
In the other case, authorities said Ahlers broke into a Colesburg home on June 28, 2017, and took property valued at $500 to $1,000.
After his prison term, Ahlers will be under 10 years of special supervision, and he will have to register as a sex offender.
