The Delaware County Supervisors approved a $10,000 expenditure for the Operation New View Interim Director at the Dec. 17 meeting.

According to supervisor Shirley Helmrichs, the interim director, John Wilson, has helped the agency since his arrival. “Providing this funding is the right thing to do to keep John,” she said.

Operation New View serves low-income individuals and families in Dubuque, Jackson and Delaware counties. It offers assistance with home energy programs, weatherization, Head Start, child and adult care food programs, emergency child care and crisis child care programs, financial literacy, volunteer income tax assistance, poverty simulations and seasonal programs.

Supervisor Jeff Madlom asked that as part of the motion to approve the expenditure, the county receive something in writing from Operation New View showing that the money went to fund Wilson’s position.

The supervisors also approved plans for the Pioneer Road bridge project. The bridge replacement will be a 90’ x 30’ concrete slab. The DOT bid letting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, 2019.

The supervisors approved a transfer from the Rural Services Fund to the Secondary Road Fund for $34,727.

County Engineer Anthony Bardgett reported that:

• The 195th Street East bridge project should be completed early next week.

• Top Grade Excavating has some final rip-rap placing to complete this week which will finish Phase II of the Quaker Mill project.

The next supervisors meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 26 at 1:15 p.m.
