Authorities: loaded gun, drugs kept near child

Authorities say they recovered multiple drug paraphernalia items along with two firearms after serving a warrant on a Greeley residence, all of which were accessible by a small child.

According to court documents, authorities executed a search warrant at a residence on the 100 block of Moody Street in Greeley Dec. 29 where they found two bags of marijuana and numerous paraphernalia items.

Authorities also say they recovered two firearms from a bedroom, including a loaded .410 shotgun with a shell in the chamber and the safety off. Authorities say the small child inside the house was able to access both the firearms and drugs.

According to a search warrant application, a deputy was informed by an anonymous caller there was a strong odor of marijuana while children were present at the residence on Moody Street in Greeley.

Upon performing a welfare check, the deputy could smell marijuana odor through the front door and the odor was stronger once the door was opened.

Joshua John Burgin, 31, of Greeley, was arrested for child endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance third or subsequent offense, Dec. 29.

Burgin posted bond Dec. 30 and had an initial appearance scheduled for Jan. 7.

Reanonda Kay Topping, 32, Greeley, was arrested for child endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance first offense, Dec. 29. Topping is set to be arraigned Jan. 30.
