Hawks Emily Heffernen 3A Player of the Year, signs with Drake

The West Delaware volleyball team was well repre-sented on the Class 3A All-State Volleyball Team with three members being honored.
First of all, Emily Heffernen was selected at a first team member in Class 3A, an Elite Team member and as well, the Player of the Year in Class 3A.
Also being tabbed as All-State selections from West Delaware were Kayla Bries (2nd team) and Tess Wegner (Special Mention).
Of the eight players se-lected to the Elite Team, only two were from Class 3A, besides Heffernen, Mindy Moody of Sioux City Heelan also made the team.

Waterloo East, Francis Xin (Sr.) Ames, Tiffany Nilges (Sr.) Tripoli, Hannah Willms (So.) Dike New Hartford, Jessica DeStiger (Sr.) Hull Western Christian.

West Delaware senior, Emily Heffernen signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the Drake Bulldogs last week after the volleyball banquet. Drake competes in the Missouri Valley Conference where they were 4-14 during the 2007 campaign and 7-23 overall. There is another familiar name also playing at Drake, Angela Bys from Marion. Bys led the Bulldogs in kills as a freshman. Drake had a very young team in 2007 with six freshmen, five sophomores, and two seniors. There were no juniors on the squad so they will be rather young again during the 2008 campaign. |
The states overall player of the year was Brittany Ridenour of Council Bluffs St. Alberts.
