West Delaware girls claim first WaMaC Conference East Division golf title

The West Delaware girls golf team, led by a fine round of 45 by Kelsey Evarts and a round of 48 by Alexa Gibbs, claimed the WaMaC Conference East Girls Golf Meet title last Monday afternoon at the Manchester Golf Club.

The Hawks had a team total of 203 strokes, three strokes better than second place finisher Western Dubuque who had a team score of 206.

This is the first divisional title for the Hawks since the format was introduced.

Shuttle hurdle relay team continues to shine for Hawks

The West Delaware boys track team ran in a pair of invitational meets last week.

On Tuesday evening they were at the Marion Invitational where they placed 11th in a field of 16 teams.

Host Marion was the meet champion with 95 points, followed by Monticello with 90 points.

One of the biggest bright spots for the Hawks thus far this season has been the shuttle hurdle relay team of Jacob Wall, Tom Gaffney, Adam Rave and Chris Harbaugh.

That team has continued to improve as the year has went along in what is a new event to high school boys track.

They have run the race in just over 60-seconds the last three times out and are currently one of the top rated teams in Class 3A.

They ran a season best 60.67 at Marion, just .06 behind the host Indians time of 60.61.

The Hawks placed 6th in the eight team field with 50 team points.

Benton Community took the team title with 104 points, followed by the host Bobcats with 99.5 points.

The Hawks ran in the WaMaC Conference Meet last night (Monday) in Manchester to warp up the regular season.

On Friday West Delaware will host the Class 3A District 7 Regional Co-ed Track Meet starting at 3:00 p.m.

Teams competing in this district include, Anamosa, Western Dubuque, Independence, Maquoketa, Oelwein, Vinton Shellsburg, Dubuque Wahlert and West Delaware.
