Hawks to be well represented at 2007 Co-ed State Track Meet

Last Friday the West Delaware boys and girls track teams hosted a Class 3A Regional Track Meet which included teams from Dubuque Wahlert, Western Dubuque, Maquoketa, Anamosa, Independence, Vinton Shellsburg, Oelwein and the host Hawks.

Dubuque Wahlert claimed both the boys and girls team titles by wide margins.

The Golden Eagle boys scored 145 team points, 65 more than runner-up Western Dubuque. On the girls side the Golden Eagles tallied 148 team points, 53 more than runner-up Western Dubuque.

The West Delaware boys team scored 44 points and qualified four events for this weeks state track meet in Des Moines.

The Hawks shuttle hurdle relay team took first with a fine time of 1:00.16. The 4 x 100 relay team took third in a time of 44.79 and the 4 x 200 relay team also placed third with a time of 1:32.78.

Individual qualifiers were Chris Harbaugh and Adam Rave in the 100 meter hurdles. Harbaugh was the first place finisher with a time of 15.30 while Rave placed third in a time of 15.52.

The boys team placed sixth overall with 44 points.

On the girls side of the competition the Hawks placed fourth with 70 team points and qualified six events for the state meet.

The shuttle hurdle relay team ran a Class 3A season best 1:03.79 for first place. The 4 x 100 team ran placed fourth with a time of 51.98 while the 4 x 200 relay team was time in 1:48.25 while placing second.

Individually the Hawks will send Holly Tjaden in the 800 meter run, Joann Feldmann in the 100 meter hurdles and a pair of 400 meter hurdlers in Cristen Dudak and Robbie Sedain.

The 2007 State Co-ed Track Meet will be held in Des Moines on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week.

Hawks fourth at WaMaC Super Meet, third at Sectionals

The West Delaware boys golf team had a pair of huge meets last week.

On Tuesday they competed in the WaMaC Conference Super Meet at Timberline Golf Course where they placed fourth overall with a team score of 324.

DeWitt Central took the team title with a score of 314, Independence was second with 320 and Dyersville Beckman third with a score of 323.

Austin Cole was the top Hawk with an 18-hole score of 79, good enough for 7th overall.

Jake Zebuhr fired an 81 goof for 10th; Kyle Morris carded an 81 for 14th and Brett Appleton shot 83 to place 17th.

Also playing for the Hawks were Tyler Rasmussen 97 and Matt Walters 100.

On Friday the Hawks competed in their Class 3A Sectional Golf Tournament at the Waverly Golf and Country Club where they just missed advancing to District action, placing third.

Decorah and Independence tied for first with scores of 308. The Hawks had a team score of 315.

Senior Kyle Morris advanced as an individual to the District Meet by placing third overall with a fine 18-hole score of 73.

Also scoring for the Hawks were Austin Cole 82, Jake Zebuhr 81, Chris Crawford 82, Brett Appleton 79 and Matt Walters 83.
