West Delaware boys track team competes at Maquoketa Valley and Vinton Invitationals

The West Delaware boys track team participated in a pair of invitational meets last week.

On Monday they were at the Maquoketa Valley Wildcat Invitational where they placed 11th in the 20 team field.

The highlight of the night for the Hawks was aw 60.71 time turned in by the shuttle hurdle relay team of Jacob Wall, Tom Gaffney, Adam Rave and Chris Harbaugh.

The time was a new school record for the foursome, nearly a second a three fourths faster than their previous best time.

Chris Harbaugh, who anchors the shuttle hurdle relay for the Hawks, also won the 110-meter high hurdles with a fine time of 15.43.

Adam Rave tied for fourth in the highs with a time of 16.16.

Trenton Kelchen ran a sub five minute 1600 meters for the Hawks to take third place in that event.

On Thursday the Hawks traveled to Vinton for the Vinton Viking Invitational where they tied for fourth placed with Benton Community with 72 team points.

South Tama was the team champion, scoring 98 points while host Vinton came in second with 88 points.

The Hawks placed first in two events. Chris Harbaugh won the 110-meter high hurdles and the shuttle hurdle relay team of Harbaugh, Adam Rave, Jacob Wall and Tom Gaffney also claimed top honors.

West Delaware boys golf team stays hot

Nearly every meet thus far this season has had a different leader for the Hawks. When you combine that with the fact that the rest of the team seems to cover up for each other you get success.

And success is what the Hawks are having.

On Monday afternoo n they traveled to Maquoketa for the Cardinal Invite.

Austin Cole fired a 73 and Kyle Morris a 76 to lead the Hawks to the team title in the nine team field.

The Hawks 307 strokes bested DeWitt Central by seven strokes as the Sabers placed second.
Scoring for the Hawks were Austin Cole 73, Kyle Morris 76, Jake Zebuhr 91, Chris Crawford 79, Brett Appleton 79 and Tyler Rasmussen 79.

The West Delaware boys golf team continued their fine play with a win over Dyersville Beckman on Friday afternoon at the Manchester Golf Club.

The Hawks defeated the Blazers 166-172 behind meet medalist, Chris Crawford who fired an even par round of 36.

Also scoring for the Hawks wer e Austin Cole 47, Kyle Morris 43, Jake Zebuhr 41, Brett Appleton 47 and Tyler Rasmussen 46.

On Saturday the Hawks traveled to Waterloo to compete in the always tough Waterloo Columbus Invitational at Gates Park.

The Hawks have had some very good teams play at this invitational and had yet to come home with a team title.

That changed on Saturday as Tyler Rasmussen sank a 10-foot put on his final hole to give the Hawks a one stroke victory over WaMaC Conference rival Independence, 328-329.

Kyle Morris was the meet medalist with a fine round of 75. He was followed by Austin Cole 83, Jake Zebuhr 86, Chris Crawford 87, Brett Appleton 90 and Tyler Rasmussen 84.
