Girls State Indoor Track Meet returns
by Ken Boesenberg
The Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union Board of Directors approved the re-instatement of the Indoor Track and Field state championship meet earlier this spring.

Starting with the 2007 season the Athletic Union will recognize the Dickinson Relays as the state championship meet. The A.D. Dickinson State High School Indoor Track and Field Championships were held in the UNI-Dome last Friday, March 23.

The Athletic Union sponsored a state indoor championship meet at the Drake Fieldhouse for 33 years before ending the meet in 1997 due to facility issues. A total of 84 schools competed in the final meet.

The Dickinson Relays is the longest-running indoor meet for girls in Iowa, with j2007 marking the 36th annual running.

There was no team scoring kept and the meet was run in a one class format. There were 11 running events and three field events contested.

Senior JoAnn Feldman hands off to freshman teammate Becca Gibbs during the 4x100 relay at the UNI-Dome on Friday.
