If you are wondering why the Hawks would score a run in the seventh to win by a score of 2-0 after leading 1-0 after six, here is the reason.
In WaMaC girls softball the hosting team is the home team for game one and the visiting team for game two.
If it sounds unconventional, it is....but that’s the way it is. Although they do remain the home team on the scoreboard, confusing, huh?
The Hawks got their second inning run when Katie Murphy led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Jenny Hood and later came into score on a wild pitch.
Murphy also got the Hawks in position to score their second and final run of the game in the seventh inning.
She led off with a double and scored when the pitcher threw away Jenny Hoods bunt attempt.
Murphy allowed a one out double in the bottom of the seventh be
fore retiring the next two batters on a ground out to right field and a game ending pop fly.
When Ashley Hood threw out the runner at first from right field in the bottom of the seventh inning it was the third time in the game she had done so. She also threw out two runners at first in game one.
Murphy tossed the complete game victory, giving up no runs o
n just three hits while striking out three batters.
The Hawks collected just six hits; one each by Kayla Vaske and Kayla Bries. Sara Hermsen and Katie Murphy had two hits each.
Of Friday and Saturday the Hawks played in the Jesup Invitational where they competed in four games.
They started out Friday with a 10-2 win over Decorah in a morning game.

Paige Heiserman tossed the final two innings and gave up one run.
In the afternoon contest the Hawk dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to Wapsie Valley via the international tie breaker in the eighth inning.
The Hawks and the Wapsie Valley battled through seven scoreless innings.
In the international tie breaker the team at bat starts with a runner on second base in each half inning.
The Hawks had Kayla Bries on second to start the eighth. She was sacrificed to third by Katlyn Heiserman. However, Kayla Vaske’s attempted bunt was caught on a diving catch by the Wapsie Valley third baseman who then double up Bries off third to squelch the Hawk scoring opportunity.
In the bottom of the inning Wapsie sacrificed their runner to third before getting a game ending double to deep left field by the third batter of the inning for a 1-0 win over the Hawks.
Katie Murphy tossed a complete game for the Hawks, giving up just the one run on only three hits while striking out nine batters.
The Hawks had four hits in the game, one each by Katlyn Heiserman, Ashley Hood, Haley Klein and Lindsey McDowell.
On Saturday the Hawks faced North Fayette in their first game which they won by a score of 12-0 in three innings.

the bottom of the first and three runs in both the second and third innings to pick up the win.
