West Delaware 8th grade girls basketball round-up

The 2006 West Delaware girls 8th grade basketball teams recently completed their seasons with a very fine 21-3 overall record.
The “A” team finished with a record of 8-3 while the “B” and “C” teams combined to go undefeated at 13-0.
“This group of athletes are very coachable, they are always ready to practice and very willing to learn,” commented Coach Carol Martens.
“Every player showed improvement as the season progressed, from shooting a left-handed lay-up to making their free throws. The off season will give the players a chance to improve their shooting skills and to play against some more seasoned players.”

Hawk Middle School wrestling round-up

The 2006 West Delaware Middle School wrestling team closed out a successful season on December 19 with a trip to Dubuque for a dual meet with Dubuque Washington and Dubuque Roosevelt.
The team , made up of 12 seventh graders and 18 eighth graders began practice back on October 16th and showed steady improvement throughout the season.
In addition to the Dubuque schools, the young Hawks competed against teams from Independence, Western Dubuque, Marion, Oelwein, Vinton, Anamosa, Dyersville Beckman, Maquoketa Valley, Clayton Ridge, and Central Elkader.
In order to ensure maximum participation scores are not kept in middle school wrestling. However, the team finished with a 257-118 match record, winning nearly 70% of their matches.

This talented group also showed the fans an exciting and aggressive style of wrestling by recording 202 pins. Almost 80% of their wins came by fall.
West Delaware Middle School wrestling coaches Dan Lahr and Kevin Harbaugh want to thank this group for their hard work throughout the season. We encourage them to set their goals high and to work hard to get to those goals.
