When all was said and done Saturday night at the 2007 State Wrestling Tournament in at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines there was only one unbeaten 140-pound wrestler left in Class 3A; Zach McCool of West Delaware.

Just half of the Class 3A champions, seven, finished their season undefeated.

It did get a bit hairy during the final seconds as Edgington was able to turn McCool to his back but it was too late as time ran out before any back points could be awarded.
The climb to that number one spot on the podium has been one of steady progress for Zach. He placed eighth as a freshman at 103-pounds, sixth as a sophomore at 119-pounds and second as a junior at 130-pounds.
The Hawks took seven wrestlers to Des Moines.
Sophomore Nathan Vaske took the mat at 112-pounds and came home with a fifth place medal for the Hawks.

Stonebraker would go on to place fourth at 171-pounds.
The Hawks sophomore 189-pounder, Carl Broghammer had the dubious honor of facing top rated Jimmy Waters of Lewis Central in his first round. Waters claimed an 18-3 tech. fall win over Carl.
In his first round consolation match Carl came right back and picked up his first ever state tournament victory by pinning Tyler Kacmarynski of Spencer at 4:54.

At 215-pounds, senior Steven Broghammer made his first trip to the state wrestling tournament as a competitor.
He had an extremely tough draw in Bojan Djukic from Des Moines East and lost by all at 1:05.

In his third match of the tournament Steven came up just short as he lost to Brian Sievers of Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, 6-5.
Djukic would go on to place fifth and Sievers eighth at 215. |
