The weather had put a damper on every outdoor activity of several weeks.
With good weather last week the West Delaware boys golf team was able to get in three meets.
On Monday the Hawks traveled to Gates Park in Waterloo where they defeated Columbus and Don Bosco, 162-180-205.
Jake Zebuhr shot a 38 to lead the Hawks while Chris Crawford carded a round of 39. Also scoring for the Hawks were Austin Cole 40 and Kyle Morris 45. Brett Appleton had a 45 and Tyler Rasmussen shot 53.
On Wednesday afternoon the Hawks traveled to Peosta for a triangular meet with the Bobcats of Western Dubuque and the Blazers of Dyersville Beckman.
Conditions were cool and a bit windy which made the Timberline course play a little longer than it really is.
The Hawks, led by Austin Cole (40) pulled out the triangular victory by scoring their sixth man to break a 173-173 tie with Dyersville Beckman.
Western Dubuque finished third with 174 strokes.
Hawk scoring - Jake Zebuhr 43, Austin Cole 40, Brett Appleton 45, Kyle Morris 45, Tyler Rasmussen 45, and Chris Crawford 47.
On Saturday the Hawks hosted their annual West Delaware Hawk Invitational.
This year 12 teams took to the links at the Manchester Golf Club.
The field included some past state champions and many state meet qualifiers.
The conditions were nearly ideal for the tournament with the exception of a fairly stiff wind out of the south. Unlike last years tournament where it was nearly impossible to keep from getting frost bite, the nearly 80 degree temperature was very much welcome.
During early action the Hawks struggled a bit but turned in some great second nine scores to easily outdistanced the field and capture the team title.
Senior Austin Cole shot an outstanding round of 75 to take individual medalist honors. Travis Kruse of Ed-Co was the runner-up with a fine round of 79.
They were the only two golfers to break the 80 mark on the windy day.
Another Hawk senior, Kyle Morris fired a fine round of 81.
Monticello finished in the runner up position with a score of 341, 18 strokes behind the Hawks winning score of 323.
Scoring for the Hawks were Austin Cole 75 (1st), Kyle Morris 81(6th), Jake Zebuhr 83 (8th), Brett Appleton 91, Chris Crawford 84, and Tyler Rasmussen 93.
The Hawks also entered a “B” team. Scoring for the B-Team were: Jake Nordaas 92, Matt Walters 95, Jon Sill 96, Jared Zebuhr 94, Matt Swartz 98, and Pat Soppe 95.
