Ed-Co golfers compete despite cold

The Vikings golf teams competed in two meets last week despite the wind and not so golf-friendly temperatures.

On Monday, both the girls and boys traveled to Winthrop.
The girls lost by a score of 204-217 and the boys were handed a loss by a score of 147-178. Top scores were Travis Kruse with a 41 and medalist Britany Vorwald with a 47.

“The Lady Vikings played decent considering practice was cancelled due to weather conditions the past five days. The individual scores were encouraging, particularly Vorwald’s medal-winning 47 and Clauson’s career best 53. With only four experienced varsity golfers, we’ll need consistent improvements to be able to meet our season goals,” stated Art Johnson, girls coach.

At Wood’s Edge on Tuesday, the boys held tight to first place, with final scores at Ed-Co, 183; Central, 191; and North Linn, 195. Adam Clausen was low for the Vikings with a 45.

Viking golfer Britany Vorwald gets ready to stroke a long putt during Ed-Co’s dual meet with East Buchanan last Monday.
“The boys competed today. The weather was horrible but they toughed it out. We are starting to get an idea of who is going to score, and some of our guys are beginning to be a bit more consistent,” stated boys golf coach Don Zieser.

The girls placed second in the wind and cold in Elkader. Scores were Central, 215; Ed-Co, 230; and North Linn, 250. Low for the Vikings was Brittany Vorwald with a 54.

Individuals scores:
Ed-Co at East Buchanan
Brittany Vorwald, 47; Amanda Clauson, 53; Kerry Timmons, 58; Karla Ingles, 59. Travis Kruse, 41; Kyle Domeyer, 42; Adam Clauson, 45; Adam Lake, 50.
Ed-Co vs. Central, N. Linn
Brittany Vorwald, 54; Karla Ingles, 56; Amanda Clauson, 60; Kerry Timmons, 60. Adam Clauson, 45; Tim Amling, 45; Travis Kruse, 45; Kyle Domeyer, 48.
