West Delaware boys host four team Early Bird Meet
by Ken Boesenberg
The West Delaware boys track team hosted their annual Early Bird Track Meet on Monday, April 2.

They were lucky that it was scheduled for Monday night as the weather turned unseasonably cold, forcing all other athletic events to be cancelled during the week.

The Hawks scored 85.75 points to capture the team title. Central of Elkader placed second with 73 points, Maquoketa Valley third with 69.25 points and Clayton Ridge fourth with 34 points.

“This is always a good meet to have as we try to invite several teams that do not have all weather tracks. They get a chance to run against some competition on a track before the meat of the outdoor schedule gets underway,” commented West Delaware boys track Coach, Tom King.

The Hawks did not run there usual line-up, taking this opportunity to get a lot of runners involved in some different races.

Maquoketa Valley’s Cody Recker dominated the long jump at the WD Early Bird track meet.
