Hawk girls, boys run well at Western Dubuque

The West Delaware boys and girls track teams each ran in a pair of meets last week.
The girls competed at Maquoketa on Tuesday night while the boys were running at Marion.
On Thursday night the Hawks both competed at the Bobcat Relays hosted by Western Dubuque in Epworth.
At Maquoketa the West Delaware girls distance medley team of Emily Prinsen, Tess Reinig, Holly Tjaden and Heather Heffernen broke the 12-year old school record for the event with a time of 4:21.15. That time is the second fastest in Class 3A thus far this season.

The girls placed in a tie for fifth at Maquoketa with 43 team points. The meet was won by DeWitt Central with 108.5 points.
While the girls were in Maquoketa the boys were competing in Marion where they placed fourth overall with 52 team points.
The boys established a new meet record in Marion with a very good time of 1:32.04 in the 4 x 200-meter relay. That team was made up of Brad McDonald, Jett MacTaggert, Tyler Jackson, and Nick Tibbott.
The Marion boys meet was won by Benton Community with 74 points, North Linn was second with 73 and DeWitt Central third with 65.5 points. |

On Monday night (last night) both the boys and girls track teams competed in their respective WaMaC Conference Track Meets. The boys were in Maquoketa while the girls competed in Vinton.
This Friday both teams will be taking part in their District Track Meet at Marion.
The Class 3A field at Marion will include the following teams for the Co-ed meet - Anamosa, DeWitt Central, Western Dubuque, Maquoketa, Marion, Dubuque Wahlert, West Delaware, and Cedar Rapids Xavier.
In Class 3A the girls will qualify the first and second place finisher and then the next eight best times or distances from across the state while the boys will qualify just the top three placewinners in each event for the State Track Meet in Des Moines on May 18, 19, and 20. |
West Delaware boys claim East Division title

Led by Austin Cole’s even par round of 36 the West Delaware Hawk boys golf team claimed the East Division WaMaC Conference title last Monday afternoon at Woods Edge Golf Course in Edgewood.
The Hawks easily outdistanced runners-up Marion and Dyersville Beckman. The Hawks team score was 161 while the second place teams shot a pair of 168’s.
Jake Zebuhr was the Hawks second best scorer on the day with a very fine round of 39, Eric Crawford was next for the Hawks with a 41.
On Wednesday the Hawks followed the East Division title with a romp over visiting Vinton Shellsburg on at the Manchester Golf Course.

The Hawks downed the Vikings by 33 strokes, 153-186.
Leading the way for the winning Hawk team was senior Eric Crawford with an even-par round of 36 on the back-nine.
The Hawks were in DeWitt for the WaMaC Conference Super Meet on Monday and will prepare for their Sectional Meet to be held this Friday at the Manchester Golf Club.
Teams in the Hawk sectional are Cresco, Decorah, Western Dubuque, Maquoketa, Oelwein, DeWitt Central and West Delaware.
The District Meet will be held at Gardner Golf Course in Marion on Friday, May 19th.
