The Hawks ran a season best time of 1:05.25 in the finals to take second place at the 2006 State COED Track Meet in Des Moines on Saturday. Right side, above, Katlyn Heiserman (top photo) runs the second leg for the Hawks runner-up shuttle hurdle relay team while Cristen Dudak (bottom photo) runs the anchor for West Delaware. Last year the same team placed third in Class 3A, this year second..no doubt they will have their sights set on the top prize when 2007 rolls around. |
The Hawks ran four juniors, Robbie Sedain, Katlyn Heiserman, JoAnn Feldman and Cristen Dudak in the race.
With all four returning for the 2007 season they will be the odds on favorites to bring home the gold a year from now.
Next year Mt. Pleasant will be with out Class 3A 100-meter hurdle champion and anchor Lindsay Bolt while DeWitt Central who finished third will be with out Alyssa Maher who was third in the Class 3A 100-meter hurdles.
The Hawks also competed in the 4 x 200-meter relay where they posted a time of 1:46.99 which was the ninth fastest time run. Making up the Hawk 4 x 200 team were senior Emily Prinsen, junior Robbie Sedain, freshman Tess Reinig and junior anchor Cristen Dudak.

The Hawks made the finals of the 4 x 100-meter relay with a season best 50.19 in the preliminaries.
In the finals the Hawks had a slower time of 51.46 to finish eighth overall. Making up the 4 x 100 team were JoAnn Feldman (junior), Emily Prinsen, Robbie Sedain and Cristen Dudak.
Emily Prinsen and Tess Reinig teamed up with junior Holly Tjaden and senior Heather Heffernen to run in the Distance Medley Relay where they finished 16th overall in a time of 4:25.64. That time was their second fastest of the season.
The Hawks also competed in three individual events with JoAnn Feldman in the 100-meter hurdles, Robbie Sedain and Cristen Dudak in the 400-meter hurdles and senior Heather Heffernen in the long jump.
Feldman was 17th overall in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.44 seconds.
Cristen Dudak was 11th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.26 while teammate Robbie Sedain was 12th in a time of 1:08.51.
Both Cristen and Robbie competed in four events at the state meet.
Senior Heather Heffernen, competing in the long jump for the first time as a senior finished 15th overall with a jump of 15’ 6 1/4”.
With all but two state meet qualifiers, seniors Emily Prinsen and Heather Heffernen, coming back next year the Hawks should put another exciting team on the track during the 2007 season.
On the boys side of the meet the Hawks best performance of the meet was the 4 x 200-meter relay team of Brad McDonald, Jett MacTaggert, Tyler Jackson and Nick Tibbott. They posted a time of 1:32.93 which placed them 11th overall in the state qualifying field of 24 Class 3A teams.
Three of the four, MacTaggert, Jackson and Tibbott are seniors so the Hawks will have to reload in order to make a return trip to state in 2007.
Junior Matt Monaghan placed 13th overall in the 3200-meter run with a very good time of 10:21.40.
Senior Chris Green was 18th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:04.53.
Junior Chris Harbaugh ran a time of 16:08 in the 110-meter high hurdles which placed him 19th overall in the field of 24.
Junior sprinter Brad McDonald ran a 11.29 second 100-meter dash time in the preliminaries and just missed making the finals by .01. Brad ran a good time in the 200-meter dash prelims but was disqualified for taking too many steps on the lane division line during the race.
Brad along with Matt Monaghan and Chris Harbaugh will be back for another shot at making the 2007 state track meet. |
