Hawk girls claim titles at Anamosa, Marion meets
The West Delaware girls added a pair of track invitational titles to their trophy case last week as they won both the Anamosa Lady Raider and Marion Indian Invitational Track Meets.

At both meets the Hawks edged out WaMaC Conference rivals for first place.

West Delaware’s 117 points at Anamosa bested the Mustangs by 19 points while the Hawks scored 100 points at Marion to Marion’s 96.

Maquoketa Valley placed 8th with 36 team points.

West Delaware boys claim team title at Vinton Invite

The West Delaware boys track team had a good week on the oval last week with a runner-up finish at the Maquoketa Valley Wildcat Invitational and a first place finish at the Vinton Viking Invite.

The Hawks placed second to a very strong North Fayette Hawk team at Delhi before edging out Benton Community at Vinton.

Hawk boys golf team continues to play well
The West Delaware boys golf team continues to enjoy a good 2006 season on the links.

The Hawks topped the field at the Maquoketa Cardinal Invitational early last week with a fine team round of 309. That score edged out WaMaC Conference rivals Western Dubuque and Marion by a mere four strokes, Both teams had team stroke totals of 313.

Kyle Morris led the Hawks by tying for meet medalist honors with a very fine round of 73 on the par-70 course at Maquoketa.

He was followed by fifth place overall finisher Chris Crawford who had his best 18-hole score of the season, a very nice 76.

Rounding out the Hawk scoring at Maquoketa were Ben Cole 80, Eric Crawford 80, Austin Cole 83, and Jon Sill 87.

Next up for the Hawks was a home dual meet with a very good Marion Indian squad.

The Hawks took care of business with a 158-177 win over the visiting Indians.

The Hawks found the Manchester Golf Club to their liking against Marion with Kyle Morris again leading the way with an even-par round of 36. Ben Cole was the only other Hawk to break 40 with a nice round of 39.

Also scoring for the Hawks against Marion were Eric Crawford 42, Austin Cole 42, Chris Crawford 41, and Jake Zebuhr 42.

On the junior varsity side of the meet the Hawks dominated the younger Indians, 172-197.

Scoring for the junior varsity squad were Brett Appleton 43, Tyler Rassmussen 42, Jon Sill 51, Matt Walters 45, Jake Nordass 44, and Justin Klein 48.

On Friday the Hawks traveled to the Dyersville Country Club for a triangular meet with Dyersville Beckman and Monticello.

Again the Hawks came away with a big win with a season low total of 152 strokes. Dyersville Beckman had 156 total strokes and Monticello 170.

Four Hawks broke 40 led by Kyle Morris and Ben Cole who each fired 37’s. Austin Cole and Chris Crawford carded 39’s for the Hawks total of 152.

Also seeing varsity action were Jake Zebuhr 42, and Eric Crawford 40.

The Hawk junior varsity squad also was victorious in their portion of the meet. They defeated Beckman and Monticello 169-1171-230.

Scoring for the junior varsity were Brett Appleton 41, Tyler Rassmussen 42, Jon Sill 49, Matt Walters 42, Jake Nordass 46, and Justin Klein 44.

On Saturday the Hawks played in much less than friendly conditions at the Waterloo Columbus Sailor Invite at Gates Park in Waterloo.

The weather and four teams got the best of the Hawks on a rainy day as West Delaware finished fifth in the six team tournament.

Walnut Ridge was the team champion at 335, New Hampton the runner-up at 337 and the Mustangs of Independence third at 339.

Host Waterloo Columbus placed fifth with 343 strokes while the Hawks were fifth at 344 and Waverly Shell Rock sixth with 375 team strokes.

Scoring for the Hawks at the Sailor Invite were Kyle Morris 87, Ben Cole 89, Eric Crawford 83, Austin Cole 92, Chris Crawford 93 and Jake Zebuhr 88.

Eric Crawford’s 83 gave him seventh place as an individual while Morris placed eighth overall with his 84.
