Hawks run away from the field at own invitational

The West Delaware boys golf team had a great day on the links last Saturday as they shot a very good team score of 315 at the Manchester Golf Club to claim first place in the West Delaware Hawk Invitational Golf Meet.

West Delaware was led by senior Eric Crawford who fired a five over par 77. Kyle Morris and Ben Cole notched a pair of 79’s while Austin Cole rounded out the Hawk scoring with a fine round of 80.

Also playing for the Hawk “A” team were Chris Crawford 85 and Tyler Rassmussen 93.

The field included some very good golf teams in Waterloo Columbus, Western Dubuque, Monticello and Ed-Co, making the win that much more meaningful.

The West Delaware “B” squad placed ninth led by Jon Sill with a fine round of 80. Jake Zebuhr 84, Brett Appleton 87 and Matt Walters 87 rounded out the “B” team scoring.
Also playing for the “B” team were Jake Nordass 88, and Justin Klein 91.

The win on Saturday was the Hawks third victory of the week having downed Waterloo Columbus and Don Bosco on Monday and Western Dubuque and Dyersville Beckman on Wednesday.

Against the Sailors of Waterloo Columbus (181) and the Dons of Don Bosco (197) on Monday the Hawks (165) were led by Eric Crawford with a 40.

Also scoring for the Hawks on Monday were Chris Crawford 41, Kyle Morris 42 and Austin Cole 42.

The West Delaware JV squad also won with a team score of 193. Columbus came in with 227 strokes while Don Bosco carded a 228.

Scoring for the Hawk JV team were Jon Sill 47, Tyler Rassmussen 42, Matt Walters 47 and Matt Swartz 57.

Also playing Monday night were Jake Zebuhr 45, Brett Appleton 45, Michael Weber 58 and Jordan Cabalka 59.

On Wednesday the Hawk varsity edged out Western Dubuque and Dyersville Beckman, 155-160-178.

Austin Cole was the meet medalist with a one-over par round of 37 for the Hawks. Ben Cole and Kyle Morris each carded 38’s while Eric Crawford rounded out the Hawk scoring with a 42.

Others playing in the meet against Western Dubuque and Dyersville Beckman were Chris Crawford 43, Jon Sill 43, Jake Zebuhr 46, Brett Appleton 46, Tyler Rassmussen 47, Matt Walters 48, Jake Nordass 49 and Justin Klein 49.

The Hawks will have a very busy week on the links this week as they travel to Maquoketa on Monday, host Marion on Wednesday, and travel to Dyersville Beckman on Friday.

They will end the hectic week by playing in the Waterloo Columbus Invitational on Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m.



Hawk girls second at MV, claim Hawk Invitational crown
The West Delaware girls track team had a good week on the track as they placed second to Dubuque Wahlert at the Maquoketa Valley Invitational on Tuesday before taking home the top prize in their own West Delaware Hawk Invitational on Thursday.

Besides the pair of high finishes in two tough meets the Hawks also qualified a pair of relay teams for this weeks Drake Relays in Des Moines.
The 4 x 100-meter relay team of JoAnn Feldman, Emily Prinsen, Robbie Sedain and Cristen Dudak posted a time of 51.43 on Thursday night to give them the 22nd fastest time in the state and easily making the cut line for the Drake Relays.

The shuttle hurdle relay team just edged into the Drake field with a time of 1:06.18 ran at the Maquoketa Valley Invitational on Tuesday.

Running on the shuttle team for the Hawks were Robbie Sedain, Katlyn Heiserman, JoAnn Feldman and Cristen Dudak.

In placing second to Wahlert at Maquoketa Valley the Hawks had five firsts, one second, one third, two fourth, one fifth and one sixth place finish.

First place finishers for the Hawks were shuttle hurdle relay team (Robbie Sedain, Katlyn Heiserman, JoAnn Feldman, Cristen Dudak) 1:06.18; Distance Medley Relay team (Kayla Bries, Ashley Hood, Holly Tjaden, Heather Heffernen) 4:32.25; 4 x 200-meter relay team (Emily Prinsen, Tess Reinig, Robbie Sedain, Cristen Dudak) 1:47.99; 200-meter dash, Emily Prinsen, 26.34; 400-meter hurdles, Robbie Sedain, 1:08.29.

Placing second was Holly Tjaden in the 800-meter run at 2:22.19.

JoAnn Feldman was third in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.90.

Placing fourth for the Hawks were Cristen Dudak, 16.11 in the 100-meter hurdles and Heather Heffernen in the long jump with a leap of 15’ 6”.

The Hawk 4 x 400-meter relay team of Emily Prinsen, Tess Reinig, Heather Heffernen and Cristen Dudak placed fifth in a time of 4:23.56 while Renee Nurre took sixth place honors in the 3000-meter run in a time of 12:26.12.

On Thursday night the Hawks captured their own invitational by scoring 98 team points to runner-up Independence who tallied 77 points. Marion was third with 73 points while Linn Mar and Dyersville Beckman tied for fourth with 64 points.

West Delaware boys claim team title at Decorah Invite
The West Delaware boys track team made a pair of long road trips last week.

On Monday they made the trek to Decorah for the Decorah Viking Invitational before venturing to West Union on Friday night for the North Fayette Invite.

The Hawks had a number of good performances at Decorah as they took home the team title with 112.5 team points. Second place went to the host Vikings with 110 points.

The Hawks trailed by 16 points going into the last two races of the night, the 4 x 100 and the 4 x 400 relays. West Delaware posted victories in both to pull out the first place finish in the meet.

The host Hawks claimed the team title with 109 team points. Benton Community was second with 87 points, Decorah third with 61 points and the Hawks fourth with 46 points.

All in all there were 14 teams competing at the meet.
