Hawks Brad McDonald breaks 51-year old track record

On a night that started out to be nearly perfect for the running of the West Delaware Hawk Invitational Track Meet junior West Delaware sprinter Brad McDonald made the most of the early good weather.

McDonald locked horns with Center Point Urbana’s outstanding sprinter, Chet Cornwell in the best race of the night, the 200-meter dash.

Cornwell nipped McDonald by three-one-thousands of a second to take first place in a time of 22.20 seconds.
McDonald’s time of 22.23 broke the oldest West Delaware boys track record still on the books. The old record was set in 1955 by Dennis Rulifson at 22.3 seconds.

Brad also had a very good time in the 100-meter dash of 10.86 where he was just edged out by Grayline Ross of Marion who won in a time of 10.62 seconds.

The meet was called off with five events remaining when the sky darkened and the lightning started.

The Hawks were having an outstanding meet at that point as they were in first place with 65 team points, 12 points ahead of second place Center Point Urbana.

McDonald finished his night with a very good leg on the Hawks first place 4 x 200-meter relay team.

The team of Brad McDonald, Jett MacTaggert, Tyler Jackson and Nick Tibbott posted a very nice time of 1:32.9 as they just keep getting better and better in this race.
