Manchester Fire Department to start demolition
by Ken Boesenberg |
| The Manchester Fire Department building addition is slated to begin March 1 with the demolition of the two-story portion of the existing station. The fire department has relocated to the old Don and Walt’s Building on West Main Street, where they will hold meetings and house the majority of the vehicles. Two of the trucks will be housed at the spec building on Grant Street in the Industrial Park. |
 |
| The firefighters will be traveling different streets than what the public is used to when responding to an emergency call. They ask that the public just be aware of the different routine. The different locations should not delay any response to an emergency. |

Is it ever going to end?

Residents of Manchester were using every means possible to get rid of snow early Monday morning. The town received another five to seven inches of snow on Sunday. Snow is piled so high in many driveways that vehicles are barely visible from the street.

A whole new meaning to “Welcome Home”
by Alison Nesteby |
It’s said when a new mom returns home from the hospital; it’s said when a child returns home to parents after a long absence; and it’s said when a soldier returns home from battle; but in Matthew and Danielle Lowe’s case, this “Welcome Home” meant much more than usual.
Danielle (Putz) Lowe, a Manchester native and 2004 West Delaware graduate, enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school and found herself stationed in Italy. While in Italy, she met Matthew Lowe, originally from Longview, Texas, who was also in the Air Force. The two fell in love and were married on June 14, 2007 in Italy.
Danielle returned home to Manchester and gave birth to their son, Aiden Isaac Lowe, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester on Sept. 9, 2007.
Aiden was being welcomed into the world in Manchester, and his father was fighting for his country in Iraq.

After being deployed for eight months, Matthew finally got the chance to come back to the states.
Returning to the United States after being deployed overseas is a big enough deal in itself, but for Matthew, this was a special return.
On Feb. 14, a very special Valentine’s Day, Matthew made his way to Manchester for the first time. This was much more than just another Feb. 14 filled with flowers and cards. On this Valentine’s Day, a soldier got to look into the eyes of his son for the first time. Little Aiden is just over five months old now.
Welcoming her husband back from war, Danielle also got to introduce him to her parents for the first time. Since Danielle and Matthew were married in Italy, her parents, Darryl and Shea Putz of Manchester, had not yet met their son-in-law.
The family got together at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester on Thursday evening to have baby Aiden baptized.
Matthew will report back to duty on Friday, Feb. 22 with a whole new picture in his mind of exactly what he’s fighting for. |
