Hawks finish 8th at MV, 5th at Vinton

The West Delaware boys track team competed in two meets this past week, finishing 8th at the Wildcat Relays in Delhi on Monday, and 5th at the Vinton-Shellsburg Invitational on Thursday.
Maquoketa Valley hosted 18 teams on Monday at the track in Delhi, and saw the dominating Monticello team walk away with yet another win, on the heels of their 2007 State Championship. CPU and Alburnett finished 12 points behind Monticello with 62.
Top finishers for the Hawks included third place scoring for the Shuttle Hurdle Relay team with a time of 1:03.09 and Nick Trenkamp in the shot put with a throw of 48’4.5.” Fourth place finished for the Hawks included Trenton Kelchen in the 3200 M Run with a time of 11:09.98; Adam Rave in the 110 High Hurdles with a time of 16.61; the 4x200 M Relay team with a time of 1:36.63; and Scott Carroll in the high jump with a jump of 5’10.”
On Thursday, the Hawks traveled to Vinton for the Vinton-Shellsburg Invitational. South Tama took home first place in this meet with a huge 30 point lead over second place Vinton-Shellsburg, 115-85. West Delaware finished in fifth with 57.5 points.
Top finishers for the Hawks included a first place score for Ben Lechtenberg in the 400 M Hurdles with a time of 58.99. Second place finishers were Ben McDonald in the 200 M Dash and Jason Engelken in the long jump. Adam Rave in and Andy Curtis ended in third in the 110 High Hurdles and discus, respectively.
The Hawks will travel to the Marion Invitational on Tuesday night and the West Dubuque Boys/Girls Invite on Thursday. The WaMaC boys meet is to be held on Monday, May 5 at Dyersville Beckman.

WD boys take first at Hawk Invite

On April 19, the Hawk men’s golf team hosted 11 area golf teams at the Manchester Golf Course for the Hawk Invitational. West Delaware ended the day on top, taking first place by one stroke over Western Dubuque, 333-334. Scoring low for West Delaware was Jon Sill, shooting 76 and taking second overall. Chris Crawford ended with an 83, which set him in a tie for sixth. Matt Swartz wasn’t far behind with an 85, putting him in a tie for tenth.
