Hawk boys take first at Beckman

Bad weather has once again been wreaking havoc on Iowa sports following the nasty winter, and the Hawk boys track team has been no exception. The boys got a meet in on Saturday, April 19 in Dyersville and took first place by 9.5 points over Maquoketa Valley.
Taylor Heinrichs continued his success in the high jump with another first place finish with a jump of 5’8”. The shuttle hurdle relay team also took first place with their time of 1:02.22. Second place finished were recorded by Jordan Hoffman in the 110 M High Hurdles and the 4x200 M Relay team of Domeyer, Alber, Mangold and McDonald.
The boys were scheduled to compete on Monday at the Maquoketa Valley Invitational and will travel to Vinton on Thursday.

WD girls track team gets season underway

The Hawk girls track team finally got on the track with a Co-Ed meet at Beckman on Friday, April 11. Finishing 2nd behind a dominating Central-Elkader, West Delaware scored an impressive 118 points, 44 behind the leader.
The girls recorded a first place finish in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:56.42. They also had second place finishes from Abby Wittenbaugh in the 400 M Dash with a time of 1:08.12; Chelsea Gibbs in the shot put with a distance if 97’2”; and the 4x100 relay team with a time of 54.59.
The girls also traveled to Maquoketa Valley on Monday to compete in the Wildcat Relays in Delhi. A fourth place finish was recorded with 63 points scored by the Hawks.
Allison Pasker took first for the Hawks in the high jump with a jump of 5’3”.A second place finish was earned by Brooke Engelken in the long jump with a final jump of 15’4.5”
West Delaware’s Girls Invitational meet at home was cancelled on Thursday. They are scheduled to compete Tuesday, April 22 at the Anamosa Invitational and Thursday, April 24 at the Marion Invitational.
